Understanding Abuse in LGBTQIA+ Relationships

  • 24 February 2026
  • 10am-12pm

馃師锔 Tickets are now live for a free LGBT History Month event at 爱神传媒: open to everyone including all students and PGR/PhD researchers.

We will be hosting a practical, supportive workshop on recognising unhealthy or abusive dynamics in LGBTQIA+ relationships, the unique challenges LGBTQIA+ people can face, and the basics of how to support each other (as friends, flatmates, coursemates, colleagues and allies).

Alongside the workshop, we’ll also be hosting ReportOUT’s award winning Pride exhibition, “The Flag in the Map”, a global project documenting Pride flags around the world, and a reminder that visibility (and safety) isn’t equal everywhere. You’ll have time to view the exhibition during the networking/lunch session. Lunch will be provided.

Speakers and topics

  • Anna – Domestic abuse in LGBTQIA+ intimate relationships: what to look out for and how to help (warning signs, responding safely, and how to signpost to support)
  • Gavin May – Services & help-seeking (what support is available and how people can access it)
  • Rony Roy– Why it’s important to consider cultures we may not be familiar with (how culture can shape experiences, barriers, and support needs)
