Profile
Daniel is an experienced researcher having collaborated with and received funding from various private and public organisations across the sport sector including the World Anti-Doping Agency, FIFA, World Rugby, UK Anti-Doping and the English Professional Footballers’ Association. His research focuses on the causes and consequences of pressing integrity issues in sport including drug use and doping, athlete welfare, and organisational governance.
Daniel Read’s research focuses on sport business and integrity, with particular emphasis on issues such as anti-doping governance, organisational legitimacy, and the ethical and commercial dynamics shaping contemporary sport. Drawing on interdisciplinary methods, his work also examines athlete welfare and health behaviours, including pain management, nicotine use, and medicine misuse, alongside broader topics such as sport policy, media framing, and digital innovation in sport industries. He has previously worked with print media outlets including The Independent, The New York Times and Athletic, and The Sunday Times as well as live media appearances internationally with BBC Radio 5, Channel 4, Sky Sports News, and ABC Radio Australia.
