Profile
Dr Jason Semeraro is a pure mathematician whose research explores deep questions in algebra, geometry and topology, seeking to understand the fundamental structures that underpin modern mathematics. He has a broad interest in how mathematical ideas connect across disciplines.
An award-winning educator, Jason received the Teaching Excellence Award at the University of Leicester in recognition of his commitment to inspiring and supporting students. Jason is passionate about communicating mathematics to wider audiences and encouraging people to engage with challenging ideas. He has taken part in numerous outreach activities, working with schools, community groups and public audiences to make advanced mathematical concepts more accessible.
Jason has previous experience working with the media, including collaborating with Ruwac Productions on their One Thing to Say series. In his contribution, "Ask Difficult Questions", he explored the connections between scientific and philosophical enquiry, encouraging audiences to approach both with curiosity, critical thinking and intellectual openness.
Jason would be happy to comment on any aspect of pure mathematics, from current developments in mathematical research to the role of mathematics in society, education and scientific discovery. He is particularly interested in discussing the value of abstract thinking, problem-solving, intellectual curiosity, and the relationship between mathematics, science, faith and philosophy.
